Chantelle was born and raised in Cold Lake, to parents Pat and Jack Dery. The Derys arrived in the area in 1911 and are one of the founding families of Cold Lake. Chantelle moved to Edmonton in the 1990s to study and subsequently work as a legal assistant and paralegal. Chantelle returned to Cold Lake in 2004 and worked first in the oilfield and in 2006 started working for Todd & Drake as a paralegal. During her 25 years as a legal assistant and paralegal, Chantelle worked in the areas of civil litigation, family law, personal injury, insurance law, and criminal law. Chantelle worked in this capacity at Todd & Drake until 2021, when she was accepted into Law School at the University of Manitoba.
Chantelle completed her Juris Doctor (law degree) from the University of Manitoba this past spring and began her year of articling with Todd & Drake in June. It is expected that Chantelle will practice primarily as a Barrister in the areas of criminal law, family law and civil litigation.
Outside of work, Chantelle is a wife and mother to two boys and a dog. Chantelle’s husband Ron served in the Air Force for over 24 years and now works with a local oil company as a field operator. Chantelle is excited to be home and able to give back to the community. She is a member of the Legal Aid Appeal Board and has also joined the Cold Lake John Howard Society Board of Directors.
